Pocket Tissue Pack Tutorial

Pocket Tissue Pack Tutorial

Whip up some of these simple and sweet pocket tissue holders for the little noses you love.  They are great last-minute handmade gifts for friends, teachers, bus drivers, postal carriers, etc.  You can make one in a few minutes, or whip up a dozen in an hour if you work assembly-line style.  It’s not rocket science — it’s a tissue holder.  So what say we get down to it!

you will find instructions to make 3 versions of tissue packs, and chances are you'll find it addictive mixing and matching fabrics for each one.

Time needed:  10 minutes (really!)

Measurement:  3” x 4 ½”

Here’s what you need:
- 1 piece of main fabric measuring 6” x 7”
- 1 piece of lining fabric measuring 6” x 7”
- Pocket tissues or a few sweet vintage hankies
- Iron, Pins, etc.
Note:  Seam allowances are ¼”.

Basic Center-Fold Pocket Tissue Pack
Step 1: Place the main and lining fabrics RS together and pin in a few places.  Stitch around the entire piece leaving a 2” opening for turning.  Press on the WS, then clip the corners.

Step 2: Turn RS out.  Press into the corners with a chopstick or bone folder.   Press the entire piece on both sides.

Step 3:  With the RS facing up, fold in half (short end to short end) and finger press to mark the center, then unfold.  Fold the bottom short end up to the center and pin on both sides.

Step 4:  Now fold the top short end down to the center and pin on both sides.  Stitch each of the sides closed, and be sure to backstitch at the beginning and end.

Step 5:  Turn RS out and press into the corners with a chopstick or bone folder.  Fill with pocket tissues or a few vintage hankies.  You’re done!

Repeat Steps 1 + 2 as written.  With the RS facing up, fold in half (short end to short end) and pin on both sides.  Stitch each of the sides closed, and be sure to backstitch at the beginning and end.  Turn RS out and press into the corners with a chopstick or bone folder.  Fill with pocket tissues or a few vintage hankies.  You’re done again!

Linen + Cotton Patchwork Pocket Tissue Pack  To create your 6” x 7” piece of “main fabric”, you will need 1 piece of linen  3½” x 7 “ and one piece of your print 3” x 7”
Place the two fabrics RS together and pin along the 7” edge.
Stitch down the 7” edge.
Press the stitches to one side on the WS, then press again on the RS.

Find a cute coordinating thread to do a line of topstitching on the linen 1/8” to the side of the seam.

Now complete steps 1-5 as written.    I included a little tab of the lining fabric—you could also add a bit of ribbon or rickrack as well.
