Market Bag Easy DIY Sewing Tutorial & Pattern
Materials:
• 1 half yard of Cloud 9, Geocentric Fabric
• Sewing machine
• Iron
• Serger is nice but you can also Zig Zag stitch
Step 1: Cut 4" off of the 18" side.
Step 2: Turn the fabric counter-clockwise, place right sides together.
Step 3: Turn the fabric so the opening side is at the top and the center crease is at the bottom. Double fold the center crease line up 2" from the bottom.
Step 4: Pin the sides of the bag and sew .5" seam allowance down each side.Then zig zag stitch or serge to finish the seam. Set aside.
Step 5:Make the straps by folding and ironing the 4" strap in half to make 2"X 18".
Then fold the raw edges in toward the center crease.
Iron the strap in half again to make 1"X18" strap.
Press and sew the open side of the strap. Repeat for second strap.
Step 6: Iron the top of the shopping bag by turning the raw edge under .5" twice.
Place the straps 4" from the side edges and pin.
Step 7: Sew around the bag, catching the handles as you go.
Step 8: Fold the strap up and pin.
Stitch an "X" pattern to secure the handles to the bag.
You are done!
