Say hello to my new change purse! Ok, you don't have to talk to it. What do you think? I'm having so much fun beautifying my purse! Pretty things make me smile. :)
Here's what I used to make my change purse:
Two 5 x 5 inch Fabric Squares (Outer)
Two 5 x 5 inch Fabric Squares For Lining
One 10 x 2 inch Piece of Fabric For Ruffle
One 4 inch 10cm Zipper
Coordinating Thread
Sewing Machine
Zipper Foot
Here's how I used it:
First I took my 10 x 2 inch piece and folded the sides in. Then I zig zag stitched them. You could just serge the edges if you have a serger. Then I set my machine to the longest straight stitch and sewed a line down the middle without back stitching.
Then I pulled the thread to scrunch up my ruffle to the size of my square. I pinned my ruffle toward the bottom, but you can put it where you like. Next I set my machine to it's shortest straight stitch and sewed directly over the previous stitch.
Grab one of your lining squares and lay it down. Place you zipper directly on top lining up the edges. So the left side of the zipper is lined up with the edge of the fabric.
Next, place one of the "outer" squares right side down on top and pin through both fabrics and the zipper. Use your zipper foot to sew a straight stitch. Don't get too close to the zipper. You don't want your fabric to get caught when you open and close it. After you finish that side, do the exact same thing on the other side of the zipper.
Now unzip. If you forget this step it will be a big deal.
Pin your matching squares together with the right sides facing. Sew the edges leaving an opening for turning in the bottom of the lining.
Turn the change purse right side out. Stitch the opening in the lining closed. Then tuck it in and your done!
Now I just need some change.
