How to make a Simple Tote Bag. Easy Tote Bag Free Sewing Tutorial / Beginner Sewing DIY Project
Cut fabric: 2 straps, 4" wide by 23" long; 2 matching pieces for the lining, 13" wide by 16" high; 2 contrasting pieces for the outside, also 13" wide by 16" high.
Iron the straps in half, right sides facing.
Stitch the straps along the long side.
Stitch the lining and outer layer along 3 sides, leaving the top edge unstitched.
Turn the straps right side out and press them flat.
On the lining, leave about 6 inches unstitched along the bottom for turning the tote right side out later.
Press the seams at the very top of the sides flat. Turn the outer layer inside out and place the lining inside it, so right sides are facing each other. Pin the seams together.
Carefully place the straps in between the 2 layers and pin them to the outer layer 3 inches from the side seams.
Stitch the 2 layers together.
Turn your layers right side out and press the edges flat.
Continue pulling.
Reach into the bag and turn the whole thing right side out through the opening you left in the lining.
Now your bag is right side out.
Stitch the hole in the lining closed.
Stitch all the way around the top.
