Zippered Box Pouch Sewing Tutorial. How to Make an Easy Boxy Zipper Pouch.
You will need:
- 2 pieces of outer fabric measuring 13.5 cm by 29 cm
- 2 pieces of lining 13.5 cm by 29 cm
- 2 pieces of fusible web 12.5 cm by 29 cm
- a zipper of 31 cm
Of course, if your zipper is shorter, your pen pocket will also be shorter.
If you want a less bulky one than this, take 12 cm, or even 11 cm as the height.
1. Iron the fusible web onto the outer fabric. You have 1 cm left where the zipper will be. That way you don't have to stitch through extra layers of fabric unnecessarily.
2. Place the lining right side up. Place the zipper on top, also right side up.
On top of that, place the outer fabric right side down.
3. Stitch together. If you are stitching with a regular foot, move your needle as far to the left as possible so that the foot can glide nicely along the zipper.
4. Unfold. You will then get this:
5. Fold closed again and pin the fabric so that it is the same distance from the zipper everywhere. Topstitch through.
6. Now tuck the piece with the zipper between the lining and the remaining piece of outer fabric.
7. Topstitch again. You will then get this:
8. Now fold both pieces of outer fabric together and topstitch half an inch from the edge. Open the zipper in half.
9. Do the same for the lining. Leave about ten inches open in the middle for turning.
10. Now lay the seams of the outer fabric and lining just above the zipper and pin in place.
If your zipper is longer than the fabric, cut off the protruding parts. Be sure not to cut off the “trigger” of the zipper.
If your zipper is shorter than the fabric, make sure when stitching the side seams that you leave enough seam to not have a “hole”.
Topstitch through.
11. Turn the zipper through the hole and close the seam. You can do this with the invisible closing seam.
12. Take one corner and fold it so that it forms a right angle.
13. Topstitch at 2.5 cm from the point. Do this for all corners.
This is the result:
Simple, right?
