Dimensions of finished: Width 24 cm, Height 17 cm, Depth 14 cm...
Materials required :
- Fabric for the outside of the case = 1 25 cm piece (in this case, polka-dot fabric)
- A fabric for the lining = 1 x 25 cm (here the gingham fabric)
- One 40 cm zipper (here it's a separable one...)
- 1.40 m matching piping.
- 56 cm strap, 2.5 cm wide.
- Vilene to reinforce the outside of the kit if the fabric chosen is cotton.
Please note that some coated fabrics may not be sufficient to hold the case securely...
Pattern pieces :
Exterior
Lining
Piece 1 (48x25 cm)
Piece 2 (48x25 cm)
Pieces 3 and 4 (15x11 cm)
Pieces 5 and 6 (15x11 cm)
Pieces 7 and 8 (39x8 cm)
Pieces 9 and 10 (39x8 cm)
+ Pieces 11 and 12 (legs: 7x7 cm)
Step by step :
1- Cut out the 12 pattern pieces, rounding off (using a 12 cm-diameter bowl) the
the 4 corners of pieces 1 and 2 and the two bottom corners of pieces
3, 4, 5, 6 (on 15 cm sides).
2- If the exterior is made of cotton, thermobond the vlieseline to all exterior surfaces
(pieces 1, 3, 4, 7, 8) and tabs (pieces 11 and 12).
3- Sew the piping all the way around the outside of part 1, integrating small decorative labels if necessary.
decorative labels (here, they are 13 and 14 cm from the top of the
top of the piece). Start sewing the piping in the middle of one of the long sides
so that the seam is as unobtrusive as possible.
Note that the small bead of piping should be on the inside of the coupon and the flat part on the outside. on the outside, as shown in the photos below (a special piping foot can make this step easier but a zipper foot will do just as well!)...
To ensure a clean seam, simply overlap a small piece of bias at right angles to your piping. perpendicular to your piping.
4- Using the zipper foot, sew pieces 7 and 9 on one of the lengths of the zipper:
- piece 7 and zipper right sides together
- piece 9 and zipper right sides together
= the zipper is between the two right sides of pieces 7 and 9.
5- Iron and topstitch.
The Teflon foot will come in handy if you're using coated fabric. If you don't have one, simply stick an adhesive strip under your classic foot to make the fabric glide more easily.
6- Do the same with pieces 8 and 10, on the other side of the closure.
7- Sew on the handles (each 28 cm long), folding the ends back on themselves
themselves by about 2 cm. Each handle is approximately 1.5 cm from the zipper and
and 11.5 cm from the right and left sides.
For greater strength, seams can be made in the shape of a square with its diagonals.
8- Fold each placket in half, right sides together. Sew each one. The right sides together (using a bias turn-up if necessary). Iron both both flaps so that the seam is in the middle of one side.
Then fold each flap over itself and sew to each end of the the right side of the closure. Make sure the zipper is wide open.
9- Next, sew pieces 3 and 5 right sides together, inserting one of the sides of the set that contains the zipper. Caution: remember to stop this seam 1.5 cm from each edge.
10- Open, iron and topstitch (always stopping 1.5 cm from the edge).
11- Do the same with pieces 4 and 6 on the other side.
12- Sew part 1 to this set, right sides together, taking care not to pick up the lining fabrics. Match the middles as shown in the photo. Be sure to keep the zipper open so that you can turn your
your work.
For a beautiful finish, turn the kit over to check that the piping is sewn between the two layers. especially on curves ;-)
13- Next, sew part 2 to the entire inner lining, right sides together. right sides together. Match the middles as for the outside. Leave an opening so you can turn the assembly inside out.
14- Finish the lining.
15- Turn the work over and close the lining neatly by hand or discreetly by machine. machine with a thread identical to the lining.
This little kit can also be made without piping and/or lining (in which case you can cover the seams with the lining). in which case you can cover the inside seams with a matching bias).
And if you feel like adding some pockets to your
LITTLE TOILETRY BAG...
1- At the end of step 12, cut two 25 x 22 cm rectangles (in this case, the star fabric).
2- Fold each rectangle in half widthwise, then topstitch one of the lengths. length. On the other length, place a bias.
3- Take piece 2 (large black piece here) then mark the middle, as in the photo below... yes, you can see the little white marks ;-).
4- 6 cm on either side of this micro mark, place the two pockets. Sew them to the sides and bottom bottom (on the bias).
5- If you wish to make 4 pockets, sew a seam in the middle of each pocket, from bottom to top.
6- Starting again on stage 13 ‼... which is not the easiest I admit ;-)
