Pockets are like bags: you can never have enough!
We like to keep lots of little things in them, and that's because they're so easy to sew simple to sew, you'll be able to multiply multiply them endlessly! Whether you're a a novice or an experienced seamstress, here's a a short tutorial on how to make your own Lovely Canvas kit collection.
MATERIALS:
- 3 Lovely Canvas in different colors (or just one if you want your pouch in a single fabric)
- 1 zipper of the desired length (depending on the opening you need). If you're making a pencil case, take one 20 cm long (a purse: 10 cm, to store a tablet: measure it and add 3 cm,
etc.).
- matching thread
- cord (optional) :
2 times the width of the pocket
- sewing machine,
- a ruler
- cutter
- pins
- scissors
1. FABRIC CUTTING
To make a 21.5*19.5 cm pocket, choose an 18 cm zip.
Cut your fabric strips to the width of your of your zipper.
Cut 2 strips from each fabric:
- a 7*22 cm strip in Lovely Canvas Cotton Candy
- a 3.5*22 cm strip from Lovely Canvas Barley sugar
- a 18*22 cm strip from Lovely Canvas Calisson
Starburst: This step is optional.
But if you want to give a little to your star band: do it!
Place a string on the inside of your strip of star cloth. Don't go all the way to the end (unlike the photo: leave 1.5 cm free on the left and right to avoid excess thickness when when sewing).
Fold the fabric in 2 and secure with paper clips.
Sew using your presser foot for zippers. zippers. This will enable you to stitch flush with the cord.
2. ASSEMBLING THE 3 STRIPS
Place your star band on top of your orange band.
Then cover with the strip of Cotton Candy fabric, placing it right sides together on the orange fabric and along the woven strip. Secure the 3 layers together with paper clips.
Stitch with a 1 cm seam. Open seam with an iron on the right side and seam the 3 layers together.
Add a seam at the top for a more finish by sewing along your cotton candy fabric.
Do the same with the other 3 strips. You add a little extra fantasy with a 4th folded fabric: place it before stitching before stitching the strips together.
3. ZIPPER
Make a 0.5 cm reverse fold on your Cotton Candy your Cotton Candy fabric. And secure it with pins to your zipper. Block one side one side and only do the other once it's been sewn.
Sew along the closure with your zipper presser foot. Tip to make a straight seam despite the slider : Start with the closure a little open (for about 5 cm). Then leave your needle stuck in your fabric. Raise the crowbar and close the zipper. Lower your presser foot and resume your sewing
Start over on the other side.
4. SIDE SEAM
It remains to close the pouch on the other 3 sides. Open the zipper to be able to return your pencil case on the spot once it has been sewn. Match your fabric strips on the sides to have a nice fitting once the sides are sewn. Pin on the 3 sides.
Sew the 3 sides together, then cut the bottom of the pocket.
Turn the case upside down and push in the corners of the kit with your scissors in the pouch to make pretty corners. Run a small iron iron over your kit and admire your work!
Tip: for more fantasy, use colored zippers!
