Bag out of Umbrella Tutorial

Bag out of Umbrella Tutorial

How To Make a Bag out of Old Umbrella Tutorial. DIY Broken Umbrella Drawstring Bag.

 Tutorial to recycle umbrellas.

Today I bring you a tutorial of the most practical, simple and ... recycling, which I like even more. An isothermal and waterproof bag from an old umbrella.

I do not know if you have the same problem as me. I like to carry a bottle of water in my bag (I drink a lot) and especially in summer very cool . The problem is that the bottle sweats and leaves the whole bag wet. To avoid this, sometimes I put it in a plastic bag, but the problem is almost the same and it looks ugly and impractical to take it out.
Well, I found a solution for me, recycling. I saw it on the blog of Pia, an Italian with a fantastic blog full of sewing tutorials and other topics. She made a bottle bag by recycling the clothes from an umbrella. I loved the idea, the umbrella fabric is waterproof and avoids getting the bag wet.

I decided to give a twist to Pia's tutorial, and make a double quilted cover. It's a way to make it isothermal and keep it cooler.

We take the clothes from the umbrella and put it double, put the bottle on top to calculate the size to cut. This is the most beautiful umbrella's clothes and will go on the outside. We cut the same size clothes from the other umbrella.

We sew all the way around the outer garment. With the outer garment, we first sew the short side. We place the batting on top and topstitch it to secure it (I did it diagonally, but you can do it any way you like). Then, sew the sides, also using the batting.

Turn the outer garment right side out and place the padded inner garment inside. This way, the batting fits between the two garments. Finally, make two parallel topstitches to thread the drawstring through and unstitch a small piece of the side seam to thread it through. We add the tensioner, and that's it: a waterproof, insulated bag to carry whatever you want at €0.
