How to Sew a Stuffed Toy Hippo. Stuffed Animal - Hippo Free Sewing Pattern & Tutorial.
The hippo will vary depending on the quality of the fabric. The striped hippo is made of stretchy shirt fabric, while the gray one is made of coarse weave cotton. The former is neater and the shapes are more rounded.
So, we will need:
1. Cotton stretch fabric (such fabrics are sold in stores as shirt fabrics, the choice of colors is usually quite large)
2. Fabric for paws
3. Eyes (can be replaced with embroidery)
4. Buttons for nostrils and tail
5. Tissue for the tail
6. Filler (in my case - synthetic down)
Pattern. If you print it out on a sheet of A4, you will get a beast of about 22*15 cm + paws. The pattern is given without seam allowances.
Cut out all the parts. If the bottom of the hippo is planned to be made of the same fabric as the whole torso, then cut a fusion cloth (connect the patterns in the area of the hippo's face).
Sew the hippo's ears and feet
Turn out, stuff the paws so that there is a free space at the top (for stitching)
If the fabric is loose, seal the place where you plan to make the eyes. This is not necessary for shirt fabrics.
Next, if the belly and top are made of different fabrics, sew them together near the face.
Sew the sides to the body. It is convenient for me to do it starting from the hollow in front of the ear and towards the butt. Then there I fix at the place of the future “butt” seam. And again I start from the ear, but already in the direction of the muzzle. (don't forget about the ears I often forget about them
According to the pattern it turns out that the top fabric is slightly oversized in the area of the muzzle. In order to understand how much to oversize, it is better to fix the fabric at the place of the bend of the muzzle. It sounds confusing, but when you sew, I think, everything will be clear.

After sewing on the two sides, only the seam on the hippo's butt should remain unstitched.
Stitching. Turn it out.
Mark the eye locations, make cuts and attach the eyes.
Stuffing the toy
Make a seam on the hippo's butt and make a tail.
Sew on the hippo's nostril buttons.
And voila! The hippo is ready!
